Character of Christ through

“I hesitate to delegate and end up carrying the load."

"Team members are not always held accountable when they don’t align with our values."

"I get caught in the weeds working in the business rather than on the business."

"I make costly mistakes in not hiring the right people."

"I have sleepless nights worrying about cash flow."

"I question how well we reflect Christ’s Kingdom on earth."

Why am I passionate about Kingdom leadership and culture?

As a 3-4 year old Armenian child growing up in Turkey, my father was an eye witness to the Turkish massacres of the Armenian people. Noone should ever see what he saw, let alone a 3 year old child. His experience was indelibly imprinted in his conscience and colored his outlook on life. That’s why he repeatedly told me throughout my childhood and adulthood, that evil overcomes good and big business and big government crush the small innocent guy.

Deeply influenced by my father’s first hand understanding of good and evil, I decided to major in Sociology in college and earn a Ph.D in Organization Behavior. My motivation was that I would help create institutions which served people rather than use them for selfish gains. As an executive coach, consultant and trainer, I have partnered with leaders in the C-suite and with teams at every level in the US and in Europe for over thirty years. I worked in a variety of industries including telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, finance, technology, transportation, and banking. Regardless of the industry, I observed a recurrent pattern. Money, politics, command and control leadership and transactional relationships undermined the aspirations of leaders to create a high performing, high support culture.

Joyce Avedisian-Riedinger, Ph.D.

“If you get all people on the same page around core values  and priorities, there is nothing you can’t accomplish.”

When I received Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I received a new calling, to enable Christian business leaders and owners to reflect Christ’s character through their leadership and business. To realize this calling I founded Avedisian Management Consultants. My vision today is to partner with Christian business leaders in small and medium sized businesses who want to be leaders in their industry, are committed to building win-win relationships, and demonstrating extraordinary results with all stakeholders. As I partnered with Christian business owners, I discovered a prevalent problem. Leaders who have the right values and heart to serve people are frequently overwhelmed with day to day demands and don’t know how to intentionally create a Kingdom culture. Therefore, they far short of their potential to advance God’s Kingdom on earth.

I joined a Christian CEO Membership Group and met a fellow member, who is founder and CEO of a national wealth planning organization and financial services company. We both observed that faith in the marketplace speakers and books focused on biblical concepts, but lacked the “how tos.” So we wrote a book, entitled, Reflecting God’s Character in Your Business, to integrate biblical concepts with practical application. The book includes indepth case examples of faith-based CEOs who set the standards in their industry and are thriving. Today we are consulting and coaching Christian CEOs based on a framework which utilizes the learnings from these best practice companies as well as our own first hand experience. The results from applying the framework move companies from good to great in their market.

AS CEO of a NJ regional bank I gained awareness, through an assessment Joyce did with my staff, that customer satisfaction was average, not great or exceptional as I believed. Because the senior team were not on the same page, there was a breakdown in teamwork. which negatively impacted the customer. Joyce introduced a Values-in-Action initiative which aligned the senior leaders around our God honoring mission, vision and core values. We translated the core values into service standards. Every morning people in every department discussed one service standard and how to put it into practice. Almost immediately, silos broke down and employees experienced a renewed sense of meaning in serving customers. As a result, the customer experience dramatically improved and the bank was on its way to achieve its vision of becoming the New Jersey’s #1 premier regional bank.

Dr. Joyce Avedisian has been instrumental in the growth of Pillar College. She has consulted with our leadership team and leadership cabinet to help us create a unified culture. This was accomplished by crafting an action plan to implement behaviors related to unity, collaboration, communication, and accountability. In addition, she brings to our team a firm resolve, intellectual prowess, and tenacity to see us succeed. She is one of the best organizational behavior experts that I have encountered.

Our “Faith in Action” group, led by Dr. Joyce Avedisian, has been such a valuable investment of my time. The rich content and collective wisdom of the participants has challenged me to focus on working on my business with a Kingdom perspective. We have explored areas of our leadership, our teams and operations as well as outcomes of our businesses/ministries. Our approach to increasing the success of our organizations is based on Biblical values and Kingdom perspectives. Each of the participants know we are blessed to be a blessing. We delight ourselves in the Lord and know that He will give us the desires of our heart. We use our talents to steward all that is in our hands to the Glory of God. I am so grateful to Joyce for her leadership as we seek His Kingdom first.

This is the first time in 5 years my spirit has been refreshed. I no longer feel alone. The women in our Faith-in-Action group are people of depth and experience. We discuss business, family, and personal issues and the intersection of the three, from a deep spiritual level. It’s like all the circles overlap in one spot. No matter what problem I bring to this group, it does not scare them and I walk away with Kingdom wisdom to make better decisions and prosper in the way God intended.

Joyce did a remarkable job of helping our Sales and Marketing leadership team to successfully link our values to the launch of a new drug. Our values became real everyday. We created new communication channels with customers, physicians, and community health centers, we became one sales and marketing team across regions, and we discovered a new and improved model for launching drugs. As a result, the drug was launched one month earlier than forecast with 15 % greater market share within six months.
